Sustainable
Livelihood Promotion
Objective:
To promote sustainable and creative
livelihood strategies within land reform projects that Nkuzi works
with. The project has three main
components to it: the development of an approach to livelihood improvement
with Nkuzi and client communities; the facilitation of support to
pilot livelihood improvement projects within three communities; and
the promotion and building of skills in appropriate agricultural practices.
Main Activities:
- Identify target communities for
pilot projects and conduct a needs and resource assessment including
the gathering of information on current livelihoods strategies
in the targeted communities
- Facilitate the planning and implementation
of projects by the three targeted communities
- Organise training for community
members in response to the needs assessment. Develop relevant
course material and translate into local languages where necessary
- Look for model livelihood projects
that can be supported and learnt from
- Arrange at least four exchange
visits for skills sharing between communities
- Bring in resource people to advise
and train communities
- Promote appropriate agricultural
methods within communities worked with
- Gather relevant materials on livelihoods
projects and build relationships with other organisations in this
field of work
- Develop an approach through work
with pilot communities and write up this approach as a guide to
Nkuzi=s work and for sharing with others
- Build staff capacity through internal
and external training and the bringing in of resource people
Resources:
- There are currently two field staff working on this programme in the Limpopo Province.
